Office of International Education program receives Best Practice Award at national conference

Posted 7:30 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2010

UW-L's Office of International Education's Global Link Scholarships Program received the Best Practice Award in the International Programming Category (Domestically-Sponsored Program) at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) 15th International Symposium on Student Services & Student Affairs March 7 in Chicago. Global Link Scholarships are awarded to international students each semester based on the student’s previous semester’s GPA and their participation in a minimum of two "culture sharing activities." Activities include coffee hour presentations, bulletin board displays, classroom panel discussions, International Awareness Week, Global Fridays and Monthly Culture Day, and La Crosse's Oktoberfest Parade. “It's an honor for UW-L to be recognized by NASPA, an organization with over 11,000 members, as a leader in international programming," says Cynthia Scarpa, International Student Adviser in UW-L's Office of International Education. "The scholarship demonstrates UW-L’s commitment to internationalize the campus and the La Crosse community. We're so grateful to have the support of the UW-L student body. Without them, this program and this award would not be possible.” Find out more about the program at www.uwlax.edu/oie/International_Students/Forms/GlobalLinkScholarships.pdf and at www.uwlax.edu/universityrelations/images/2010/Spring/IntNatAwards.pdf.
