Brianna Mark earns UWL’s 2017 Student Employee of the Year award

Brianna Mark is wrapping up her time at UWL. For some of the years she’s been here, her fellow students often thought she was a teaching assistant. “I’m just a student who knows the content and has some tips and tricks to be successful,” says Mark. Mark has been a leader with Supplemental Instruction since it started two years ago. Supplemental instruction is a program of student-led study sessions outside of classroom hours. Student leaders, like Mark, have already taken the course and help students build study skills through group-based and hands-on activities. For her work on the program, Mark was named UWL’s 2016-17 Student Employee of the Year. Lee Baines, director of the Murphy Learning Center, nominated Mark. He says she is “incredibly energetic, puts everything that she has into whatever she’s doing and she’s all about giving to other people.” Mark will graduate in May. After graduation, she will be teaching chemistry in Mozambique with the Peace Corps. “I’m excited to apply a lot of what I’ve learned there,” she says.
