Join the “Peanuts” comic strip characters as they take on the rocky roads of adolescence this August at UW-La Crosse. Theatre students Kevin Fanshaw and Austin Hernandez will produce the “unauthorized parody” of the Peanuts gang, “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead,” by Bert V. Royal at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, and Saturday, Aug. 6, in Frederick Theater in Morris Hall on the corner of 16th and State streets. “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” contains strong language, as well as sexual and substance references and is recommended for mature audiences. The death of a beloved dog forms a permanent rain cloud over CB, which follows him through days at school, parties and an asylum. When CB attempts friendship with someone long cast away from his social group, gossip, fear, love, and angst come blazingly too close for comfort. Performances range from dramatic and laughable to deranged and heartbreaking before reaching an evocatively promising end. Covering many topics alive in high school hallways and cafeterias, the play offers a relatable tale as well as an opportunity to question growing up and those with whom we choose to surround ourselves. “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” received funding support through a UW-L undergraduate research grant and is sponsored by the Department of Theatre Arts.
