Students: Take this UWL quiz

Posted 12:03 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023

UWL Dare Cards are part of the Eagleopoly game featuring the question, "When did UWL open its doors to UWL students?"

Learn about UWL resources with these 11 questions from the Eagleopoly board game

Test your knowledge by answering these 11 questions below while exploring some commonly-used campus resources.

The questions were originally created for the Eagleopoly board game, which was designed by UW-La Crosse first-year students and their instructor Teri Holford. The class created the game in Holford’s section of a First-Year-Seminar course during the 2022-23 school year as the class collective project.

Students brainstormed and selected the questions, keeping in mind what future, first-year students might want to know. They also voted on the type and value of the properties that would be sold during the game. Two of UWL’s popular student support units, the Public Speaking Center and Writing Center came up with questions related to their areas for the game.

“I loved every minute of it,” says Holford about creating the game. “The process of brainstorming, ranking and voting created community in itself, and the students were proud to have been part of seeing this semester project become a board game that will live on and help other first year students adapt to college.”

Holford came up with the idea for the game based off similar university-themed games like Madisonopoly, the UW-Madison-themed board game. Like the traditional Monopoly game, players take turns rolling the dice and following the instructions where they land. In the UWL game, players choose a role whether chancellor, provost, registrar, campus housing, cashier or student senators.
