Seasonal holiday favorites highlight the annual Swinging Yuletide at UW-La Crosse.
The La Crosse Jazz Orchestra will be joined by UWL Instrumental Jazz Ensembles, the La Crosse Jazz Quartet and the Coulee Chordsmen to perform holiday classics with a jazz twist at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition.
Selections will include the University Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of UWL Music Department Senior Lecturer Karyn Quinn, performing “Here Comes Santa Claus,” “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer," “Sleigh Ride,” “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” and Glenn Miller's "Frosty The Snow Man.”
The La Crosse Jazz Orchestra, directed by retired UWL professor Greg Balfany, will close the concert with “The Nutcracker Suite,” as originally performed by Les Brown. Several holiday classics will be performed featuring vocalists Cathy Reitz and Tim Henke.
Tickets are $20 for cabaret-style table seating or $5 for students and $10 for others in theater seating. The concert typically sells out every year so early purchase is recommended.
