UW-L's website now has a link to another student news publication, The Mercury, containing stories written by students in News Reporting & Editing and other English department classes.
This week the UW-L website has a link to another student news publication, The Mercury, containing stories written by students in News Reporting & Editing and other English department classes. The link is found on the Campus Life page, under "Staying Informed."
Recent stories include reminders about trash and recycling in La Crosse, the UW-L relationship to the La Crosee Loggers, and security additions to Oak Grove Cemetery across the street from the university. The publication will be updated daily, Monday through Friday, with a new story.
The Mercury is another student publication opportunity for anyone in communications or professional writing, according to Thomas Pribek, instructor for News Writing. Students in writing-related programs may need a bibliography as well as a portfolio.
The Mercury, in its initial form, is primarily an outlet for news writing, but it may be able to add submissions from other classes and story suggestions to add to the weekly assignment sheet for the class. A story idea, an announcement or a story for consideration can be sent to tpribek@uwl.edu.
