Nelson “Nelly” Emokpae, singer songwriter and guitarist, will entertain during Family Weekend at UW-La Crosse. He will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in Valhalla, Cartwright Center-Gunning Addition.
Emokpae was born in Nigeria, where he was forced to flee at age 15. He came up with his stage name, Nelly’s Echo, by seeing the “echo” response of his audiences. Emokpae was featured on the third season of the NBC-TV show, “The Voice,” being eliminated after only a few weeks. Now, the 32-year-old tours throughout the U.S., sending the message that music is a two-way street — the musician must fully appreciate the audience if the audience is to fully appreciate the music.
Admission is $4 for UW-L students and $6 for all others. To learn more about Nelly’s Echo, visit www.nellysecho.com. For more information about the concert, contact the Cartwright Information Counter at 608.785.8898. This event is part of the university’s Campus Activities Board Series.
