Musical promises a ‘Dirty, rotten good time’

The UWL Department of Theatre and Dance will present the musical comedy “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” by David Yazbek and Jeffrey Lane. Performances take the stage at 7:30 p.m. April 21-22 and 27-29 and 2 p.m. Sundays, April 23 and 30, in the Toland Theatre, Lowe Center for the Arts, 333 N. 16th St.

The musical “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” centers on two con men living on the French Riviera. The first is the suave and sophisticated Lawrence Jameson; the other, a small-time crook named Freddy Benson. After meeting on a train, they unsuccessfully attempt to work together only to find that this small French town isn’t big enough for the two of them. They agree on a settlement: the first one to extract $50,000 from a young female target, heiress Christine Colgate, wins, and the other must leave town.
