Students to perform romantic Broadway musical

The Department of Theatre Arts will present the “most romantic of all Broadway musicals.”

“She Loves Me,” by Joe Masteroff, Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock, is a charming, romantic comedy about idealism and the promise of true love. The production runs at 7:30 p.m. April 22-23 and 28-30 and 2 p.m. Sundays, April 24 and May 1. Performances are in Toland Theatre, Center for the Arts, 333 N. 16th St.

Nominated for five Tony Awards, “She Loves Me” is a case of mistaken identity and letter-writing in which two feuding perfume clerks have no idea that they are in love. Set in a 1930s European perfumery, shop clerks, Amalia and Georg, more often than not don’t see eye to eye. After both respond to a “lonely hearts advertisement” in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters that they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown. Amalia and Georg eventually discover the identity of their true loves, with many twists and turns.
