Two recent graduates of the College of Science and Health’s school health education program have been honored.
Austin Reed, a school health education major with a concentration in health systems, management and policy; and Haley Anderson, a school health and physical education major, are co-recipients of the 2016-17 Outstanding School Health Major of the Year Award.
Both participated in spring commencement May 14 and are completing student teaching for the semester. Reed, from Amery, is planning to attend graduate school in public health education at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Anderson, from St. Croix Falls, is interviewing for teaching positions in school health and/or physical education.
“They are both wonderful role models and strong advocates in the field of school health education,” says Gail McCormick, a lecturer in the Department of Health Education and Health Promotion.
A one-of-a-kind program in Wisconsin, the university’s School Health Education major is nationally recognized for excellence in preparing certified school health education professionals since the early 1970s.
