The UW-La Crosse Men’s and Women’s Club Volleyball players teamed up with the non-profit organization Inspire Sports to hold a volleyball clinic at UW-La Crosse for children with special needs Sunday, April 26, at UW-L’s Mitchell Hall. Children were paired up one-on-one with volleyball club players and other volunteers to practice skills, build relationships and have fun.
Part of the mission of the clubs is serving as role models in the community, says Laura Neubert, UW-L Women’s Club Volleyball co-president.
“Our club as a whole thought that volunteering for the Inspire clinic would be a great way to give back to the community and help individuals that may not receive the same opportunities that we are all given each day, such as being able to play competitive volleyball for our school,” says Neubert.
UW-L’s Men’s and Women’s Club Volleyball teams are not only community volunteers, they are also strong national contenders. The men's team won the 2015 Division II National Championship in Kansas City, Missouri in early April, and the women’s team earned second place at the national competition.
Inspire Sports is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to creating athletic opportunities for individuals with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities. Inspire Sports reached out to the Women’s and Men's Club Volleyball teams as an opportunity for college student-athletes at UW-L to mentor individuals with disabilities in the La Crosse community.
