UW-L hires new deans, athletic and advising leaders

UW-L has hired new leadership this spring.

UW-La Crosse has hired new leadership this spring with two new deans, a new athletic director and a new director of the Academic Advising Center and Career Services. Two of the new leaders are familiar faces at UW-L. The other two come from universities in Michigan and Washington to campus.

Gail Beausoleil

[caption id="attachment_4784" align="alignright" width="244"]Headshot image of Gail Beausoleil Gail Beausoleil[/caption] Gail Beausoleil, of Davenport University in Michigan, will be UW-L’s new director of the Academic Advising Center and Career Services, starting at the end of June. Beausoleil has served as director of Career Services at Davenport since 2007 where she managed a budget and staff for a main campus and four satellite campuses of 3,500 students. Tim Tritch has been interim director of Career Services since August 2013 after Karla Stanek, longtime Career Services director, retired.

Kim Blum

[caption id="attachment_4785" align="alignleft" width="244"]Kim Blum Kim Blum[/caption] Kim Blum was named UW-L’s new director of athletics in March. Blum served as the university’s interim director of athletics since July 2014. Blum previously served as deputy director of athletics in 2013-14 and associate athletic director from 2004-13. Blum brings a rich history as a coach and administrator. “She has proven to be knowledgeable, hard-working, and incredibly committed to UW-La Crosse student-athletes and our athletics program,” says Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Paula Knudson.

Julia Johnson

[caption id="attachment_4786" align="alignright" width="244"]headshot image of Julia Johnson Julia Johnson[/caption] Julia Johnson, UW-L associate dean of the College of Liberal Studies, will be the college's new dean starting July 1. Johnson has been the associate dean and director of the School of Arts and Communication since 2011. She was the inspiration behind the college's Creative Imperatives festival, and has worked closely on several major projects for the college and the university, including a number of task forces. Johnson looks forward to collaborating with faculty, staff and students. She will replace Dean Ruthann Benson who plans to take a sabbatical and go back to teaching before retiring in December 2016.

Laura Milner

Laura Milner[/caption] Laura Milner will become the new dean of UW-La Crosse’s College of Business Administration. Milner is currently associate dean of the College of Business and interim chief international officer at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. She will start at UW-L Aug. 1. Milner comes with a wealth of experience, particularly in international education. She has experience working on six continents with two Fulbright scholarships, and has published extensively in international marketing. Current CBA Dean Bruce May is planning to retire, but will stay until Milner arrives Aug. 1.
