UW-L to dedicate stadium Sept. 12

Posted 10:29 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009

After years of planning and a successful capital campaign, the $16.6 million UW-La Crosse Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex has become a reality. Area residents are welcome to join in the dedication of the impressive facility. The celebration gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in the Stadium Parking lot. The historic event, open to the public, will honor veterans and recognize donors and volunteers who helped make the project possible. The Traveling Tomb of the Unknown Solider, a replica of the memorial at Arlington National Cemetery, will be displayed in the parking lot throughout the day. Following the dedication, the UW-L football team takes on Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) in the team’s home opener at 1 p.m. UW-L leads the all-time series 2-1 after Azusa Pacific recorded a 13-10 victory in 2008 at a game played in Winona.
