UW-La Crosse’s Kinesis Dance Theatre, a student dance group, will perform on campus. Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, in Toland Theatre in the Center for the Arts.
The performance will feature a new, modern piece choreographed by Artistic Director Kathy Gorman to the music of Ottorino Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances.” Gorman is also debuting a new jazz number, “Barcelona,” highlighting six female dancers.
Student members choreograph and perform many of their own solo or small group pieces while working with lighting and costuming designers on campus to create a more theatrical dance experience. This year, student-choreographed numbers vary from a mystical Bollywood dance piece to a tap dance performed to “The Cups Song.”
Kinesis Dance Theatre made its Toland Theatre stage debut in March 2009. Tickets go on sale one hour before each performance at the box office. Tickets are $5 for UW-L students, $14 for senior citizens and other students, and $16 for others. Seating is general admission.
