Take this short quiz spanning UWL’s 114-year history

Test your knowledge by answering these 10 questions below that explore UW-La Crosse history and other facts from World War I construction delays to more recent presidential visits.

The questions were originally created for the board game, “Eagleopoly,” designed by UWL first-year students and their instructor Teri Holford. The class pieced together the game in Holford’s section of a First-Year-Seminar course during the 2022-23 school year as the class collective project.

Students brainstormed and selected the questions, keeping in mind what future first-year students might want to know. They also voted on the type and value of the game board properties that would be sold during the game. Two of UWL’s popular student support units, the Public Speaking Center and Writing Center, also participated by generating questions related to their areas for the game.

“I loved every minute of it,” says Holford about creating the game. “The process of brainstorming, ranking and voting created community in itself, and the students were proud to have been part of seeing this semester project become a board game that will live on and help other first-year students adapt to college.”

Holford came up with the idea for the game based off similar university-themed games like Madisonopoly, the UW-Madison-themed board game. Like the traditional Monopoly game, players take turns rolling the dice and following the instructions where they land. In the UWL game, players choose a role to represent whether chancellor, provost, registrar, campus housing, cashier or student senators.

Three games are available for check out at Murphy Library.

Alumni are welcome to visit Murphy Library and utilize library resources.
