The tour to Trinidad and Havana Feb. 6-13, 2016 will feature the rich local culture and rhythms of daily life in Cuba as relations with the US begin to thaw. Cuba is known as a "time-capsule" nation, with historic architecture and nostalgic 1950's era automobiles. It is an island like no other and while the country normalizes relations with the US, many believe the landscape of Cuba will quickly change. At the same time, this announcement has brought hope to the people of Cuba and there simply could not be a better time to visit. Tour rates are $4,540 per person, based on minimum of 20 participants. Single rooms are an additional $870. A deposit of $600 per person is due with each reservation. The trip is open to all. The price includes round-trip airfare on charter flights from Miami to Cuba, accommodations in hotels, some meals including one drink with lunch and one with dinner, bottled water kept on the bus, sightseeing and excursions, transportation in an air-conditioned motor coach, services of a Distant Horizons tour manager and of a local Cuban guide, a Cuban visa, gratuities, Cuban departure tax, and mandatory health insurance and evacuation required by the Cuban government. Domestic airfare to and from Miami is extra. Participants must be in good physical condition for the rigorous, fast-paced program, and be able to walk for long distances over uneven cobblestones and up and down stairs without problems. The trip is sponsored by UWL Alumni Association and the Continuing Education and Extension Office. The tour has limited space; reservations will be first-come, first-served.
