7th Annual Veteran's Day Breakfast Scheduled
Freedom Honor Flight and UWL Athletics Department invite area veterans to the Mitchell Hall Fieldhouse for the 7th Annual Veterans Day Breakfast Saturday, Nov. 11. The event is free for all veterans and their families. Doors open at 7 a.m. and breakfast, served by UWL student-athletes from all 19 intercollegiate teams, will be served until 10 a.m.
A special memorial ceremony will take place inside the UWL Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex at 8:15 a.m., followed by the event program at 9:15 a.m. in the Mitchell Hall Fieldhouse. The program will feature Retired Navy Captain Doug Peterson. Music will be provided by the UWL Brass Quintet and the North Woods International School.
UWL students have been supporters of Freedom Honor Flight since the group began organizing flights in 2008. ROTC students assist with every flight, the Screaming Eagles Marching Band has performed at Freedom Honor Flight welcome home festivities and UWL student-athletes have held several fundraisers for veterans. Free parking for the event will be available in the lot (C-2) directly north of Mitchell Hall.
Special Veterans Day recognition will also take place Saturday, Nov. 4, as the Eagles football team hosts UW-Stout at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. Kickoff is 1 p.m. Pre-game events include a presentation of the American flag by the Eagle Battalion ROTC Color Guard, an aerial flyover, live playing of Echo Taps, a three-volley firearms salute and a moment of silence. Halftime will also include a patriotic salute by the Screaming Eagles Marching Band. All current service members and veterans are invited to attend the game for free.
Free tickets will be available with a military ID on gameday at the stadium box office. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase discounted $4 tickets for those attending the game with current service members and veterans.
