People can get an eagle-eye view of the construction of UW-L’s newest building — brick by brick.
A camera was installed on top of the stadium at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex for streaming the demolition of the old police services building and to capture the construction of UW-L’s new student center on the parking lot east of Wimberly Hall.
Demolition of the police services building started in early June. Construction of the new student center is anticipated to start in October and be completed in early 2017.
It’s not the first time UW-L has recorded construction history. Time lapse videos were created for Centennial Hall, Eagle Hall, Reuter Hall, the Health Science Center, and the old stadium at the site of the new Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
“We started doing this because UW System wanted to see the construction process,” says Jim Jorstad, UW-L director of Academic Technology Services.
But the videos have had much wider appeal because they are both enlightening and instructional, says Jorstad.
“People are captivated by what they can’t see in real time,” he says.
Construction of the new student center will be visible on the webcam starting in October.
