Civil Discourse Moderator Training

A student org event from Student Association

Civil Discourse Moderator Training

Join us for an engaging session on civil discourse - what it is, why it matters, and how it can transform the way we communicate. In today’s world, conversations around sensitive topics can often feel overwhelming or divisive. This event will help you learn practical strategies for navigating difficult discussions with respect, empathy, and open-mindedness.

Through interactive activities and real-world examples, you’ll discover:

  • What civil discourse means and how it differs from debate or argument.
  • Why fostering respectful dialogue is essential in academic, professional, and personal settings.
  • Techniques for listening actively, asking thoughtful questions, and managing disagreements constructively.

Why Attend?

  • Gain valuable communication skills that will serve you in classrooms, workplaces, and beyond.
  • Build confidence in facilitating conversations on challenging topics.
  • Connect with peers who care about creating inclusive and respectful spaces.
  • After attending, you’ll receive a certificate of completion and have the chance to lead small-group discussions at future Civil Discourse Program events—an excellent way to strengthen your leadership skills and make a positive impact on campus.
