English Department William J. and Yvonne M. Hyde Colloquium Series

Using Mock Interviews and Eagle Advantage to Promote Career Readiness

Last year, the English Department Recruitment, Retention, and Public Relations Committee developed an in-class activity to stimulate students’ awareness of career-relevant skills and formative experiences provided by their general education composition and literature courses specifically, and their non-major courses in general. The activity prompted students to communicate awareness of their abstract and concrete academic and interpersonal skills to potential employers and other audiences. Bringing course activities together with course SLOs and UWL Eagle Advantage competencies equips students with the language necessary to convey their aptitudes and experiences. We will describe our experiences and suggest ways for you to adapt the activity we designed in your own classes.
