ART OPEN HOUSE

Get your hands dirty while learning more about the UWL Art Department!

The UW-La Crosse Department of Art will host an Open House from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26.

The Open House is an opportunity for campus and community members to get their hands dirty while learning more about the UWL Art Department. The event will offer the opportunity to see student artwork, view and participate in technical demonstrations, meet current students and faculty members, and learn about the studio areas unique to the Art Department. The evening will also include tours of the UWL studio areas including photography, sculpture, ceramics, blacksmithing, metals, graphic design, drawing, painting, art education, printmaking and art history.

The event is free and open to the public. Patrons will have an option to purchase student work.

The Art Department Open House is held concurrently with the ongoing exhibition of artist Len Davis’ work: BRAINSTORMING. Len Davis is interested in how multiple languages express the idea that "A picture is worth a thousand words," to explain how complex and sometimes multiple ideas can be conveyed more effectively through images. He combines images and text to explore how human brains simultaneously make meaning with both. Using collage, drawing, and painting Davis dives into his "intellectual sport" of brainstorming to create hundreds of postcard-sized compositions that document the process of forcing his brain to explore and innovate over and over again. The gallery is located on the first floor of the Truman T. Lowe Center for the Arts, 333 N. 16th St., and the exhibition is free and open to the public.
