Recruiting Healthy Participants for a Research Study

We are studying the relationship between red blood cell health and cognitive and physical function

Purpose

The purpose of the study is to investigate the health and functioning of red blood cells (RBC) in healthy individuals to determine if RBC function is related to cognitive and physical functions including the lungs, heart and blood vessels at rest and during brief exercise.

What will you be asked to do?

  • Complete two visits: (1) Screening and (2) Testing
  • Screening visit to determine eligibility using two questionnaires
    • Can be completed online or in-person
  • A single testing visit 2-2.5 hrs in length
    • Completed on the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse campus
    • Cognitive function test
    • Lung function test (breathing test)
    • Blood vessel function test (non-invasive using a sensor placed on the skin)
    • Exercise test on a stationary bicycle
    • A single blood draw from a vein in the arm

Eligibility

  • Men and Women aged 18-79 years old
  • Currently healthy
  • No COVID infection within the last 3 months
  • Have no restrictions on participating in rigorous exercise or are cleared by physician
  • Non-smoker

Incentive

$100 will be provided to you for completion of the study.
