UWL Wind Ensemble Concert

Above the Fold

The UWL Wind Ensemble (conducted by Martin I. Gaines) performs in Annett Recital Hall on Sunday, December 8 at 4 p.m.

“’Above the Fold’ is a nod to newsworthy items so important that they must be featured at the top of the front page,” says Gaines. Opening this concert will be a 200-year anniversary performance of Felix Mendelssohn’s Overture, originally titled Nocturno. Also on the program will be John Phillip Sousa’s Washington Post March, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. Other works include Omar Thomas’ Of Our New Day Begun, and Ira Hearshen’s Symphony on Themes of John Philip Sousa, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

The Lowe Center for the Arts is currently adjacent to a major construction project for a new parking ramp. Please visit uwlax.edu/vpa/parking for more information. This concert is free and open to the public, no advance reservations required.
