Art in Tandem

The UWL Art Gallery presents its first exhibition of 2025 titled “Art in Tandem,” a collaborative project that joins UWL printmaking students with six professional artists from around the globe, including Norway, Australia, Qatar, and the United States. Opening reception for this exhibition will be held outside the gallery on January 31 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Printmaking is a centuries-old craft that involves transferring images from a matrix (such as wood, metal, or stone) onto a surface like paper of fabric. Traditional methods include woodcutting, etching, and lithography, and have allowed artists to communicate in mass.

With advancements in digital technology, printmaking has vastly transformed in how they are created, shared, and experienced by others. This exhibition features prints made with new and old techniques.

Artists partnering with UWL for this exhibition include Gina Hunt (Chicago), Richard Blackwell (Australia), Solveig Landa (Norway), Reham Mohamed (Qatar), Zainab AlShibani (Qatar), and Landon Sheely (La Crosse).

On February 7 from noon to 3 p.m., a “pop-up print shop” will be held in the gallery, where visitors to the gallery have the opportunity to witness UWL faculty and students demonstrate the processes involved in creating the works for this exhibition.

What: Art in Tandem UWL Art Gallery Exhibition
When: January 27 to March 2; the gallery is open 1 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Opening reception on Jan. 31 from 5-6:30 p.m. Pop-up print shop demonstrations on Feb. 7 from 12-3 p.m.
Where: UWL Art Gallery, Truman T. Lowe Center for the Arts
Admission: Free and open to the public.
