UWL Celebrates: Hispanic Heritage Month

Couch Conversation with Vice Chancellor Vitaliano Figueroa

Registration Link

UWL Celebrates is a yearlong series that brings people together through food, storytelling, and shared conversation. Hosted by the Center for Civil Dialogue & Civic Engagement, each event features a guest speaker whose experiences and work help us explore the world around us—and each other. These gatherings are about connection, reflection, and supporting a campus culture where everyone feels seen, heard, and part of the community. https://www.uwlax.edu/access-belonging-and-compliance/celebrations/

Each story shared adds a new thread to the tapestry that is UWL—woven together, we create something stronger, richer, and more connected.

Vitaliano Figueroa serves as vice chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse — a role he has held since February 2018 .

Figueroa brings deep passion and purpose to supporting the whole student through inclusive leadership and community-building.

He holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership from Argosy University, a master’s degree in college student personnel and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Rhode Island.

Before joining UWL, he held senior student affairs roles at San Diego State University and Valley City State University, where he led initiatives focused on student retention, leadership development and equitable access.

At UWL, Figueroa oversees departments including Admissions, Child Care Center Counseling and Testing, Intercollegiate Athletics, Rec Sports, Residence Life, Student Health Center, Student life, and University Centers. He also co-leads the Universities of Wisconsin Student Affairs Leadership Academy, supporting emerging student affairs professionals across the state.

Honored as one of Wisconsin’s 46 most influential Hispanic leaders, Figueroa continues to model inclusive excellence and student-centered leadership.
