Naoko Giblin is an associate professor and associate department chair in UWL’s Department of Exercise & Sport Science, where she specializes in athletic training, biomechanics, and injury prevention, with a particular focus on patellofemoral pain and running-related injuries .
A native of Japan, she moved to the United States during her teenage years, completing her high school education here before earning a bachelor's degree in athletic training at Central Michigan University. She then obtained both a master’s and doctorate degree in exercise science from the University of Toledo.

A licensed athletic trainer since 2003, Giblin has provided clinical care in diverse settings  — including NCAA Division I athletics and community clinics . Her research explores how biomechanical analysis and functional rehabilitation can improve outcomes for individuals dealing with lower extremity injuries.

Giblin is also recognized for fostering student engagement and interprofessional learning. Her teaching style is dynamic and accessible: Students appreciate her use of case studies, hands-on learning and humor to bring complex material to life .

She is multilingual and contributes to cross-campus conversations around language access and cultural belonging .  In her free time, Giblin enjoys running, cross-country skiing, canoeing, exploring local breweries and spending time outdoors with her family — reflecting her passion both for movement and community.
