The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Voice Area presents Dramatic Delights: Musical Scenes from the Stage, an evening of captivating storytelling through song, on Saturday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Annett Recital Hall. Under the direction of Dr. Kourtney R. Austin, with Alethia Kenworthy on piano, the performance highlights an array of opera and musical theatre scenes performed by talented UWL student vocalists.

The program features memorable moments from beloved works spanning centuries of stage tradition — from the ethereal Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák to the comic charm of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, and the heart-stirring melodies of The Sound of Music by Richard Rodgers. Modern selections include Little Women by Mark Adamo, Kiss of the Spider Woman by John Kander and Fred Ebb, and Closer Than Ever by David Shire, offering a rich blend of styles and stories that celebrate the power of the human voice and the spirit of ensemble performance.

“We are thrilled to share this performance with our campus and community,” says Austin. “Musical and operatic scenes allow our students to immerse themselves fully in storytelling, character, and collaboration. Each piece challenges them in different ways, and it is a joy to watch their artistry and confidence grow as they bring these works to life.”

Performers include Annalyse Armijo, Melia Fretwell, Morgan Kjellberg, Victoria Ratsch, Liv Scharfenberger, Andrea Juarez, Nicholas Sagen, and Cam Steffen, all members of the UWL Voice Area. Together, they bring to life characters both comic and poignant, exploring the full spectrum of emotion that defines music for the stage.

“Dramatic Delights:” Musical Scenes from the Stage is free and open to the public, no advanced reservations required. For more information, visit uwlax.edu/vpa.
