The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse presents a special afternoon of flute music featuring Dr. Jonathan Borja, Associate Professor of Music, in recital. The performance will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 4 p.m. in Annett Recital Hall at the Truman T. Lowe Center for the Arts. Dr. Borja, a distinguished performer and educator at UW-La Crosse, collaborates with pianist Dr. Lindsay Garritson for an engaging program that highlights both established and contemporary works for flute and piano.

With expertise in contemporary and Latin American music, Saturday’s program features works by two living Mexican composers. Opening the recital is Cuatro Piezas by Mexican Eduardo Gamboa, which takes listeners through four movements thoughtful craftsmanship and expressive color; and Elegía por unos ojos verdes by Nubia Jaime Donjuan, based on a poem and written in memory of Cynia Jaime Magallón will have its U.S. premiere this afternoon. Other works on this program include sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, Gaetano Donizetti, and Sergei Prokofiev.

With performances described as “the highlight of the evening” (Kansas City Star), Jonathan Borja enjoys a varied career as a performer and educator. As a dedicated advocate for new and underrepresented music, he has performed throughout the United States and Mexico, appearing at renowned venues and festivals. Dr. Borja is Associate Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse where he teaches flute and music history. He has been a member of the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra since 2019, appearing as soloist in 2023.

Dr. Lindsay Garritson, who will be collaborating with Borja in this performance, is an award-winning performer who has performed in the United States and abroad since the age of four, being featured as a soloist on many occasions. Garritson is an avid chamber musician and is currently a member of the Bergonzi Piano Trio.
