Concert Band

The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Martin I. Gaines, invite the community to its first concert of the academic year titled “Teeth of the Mechanism” (Concert Band). The Concert Band plays in Annett Recital Hall of the Truman T. Lowe Center for the Arts.

The Concert Band opens with the fanfare sounds of Henry Fillmore’s Military Escort March. Following are Amaranthus by renowned Japanese composer Satoshi Yagisawa and The Battle Pavane by Tielman Susato. Saturday’s performance also features two premieres: Wild Ice by Katherine Bergman and Teeth of the Mechanism by John Mackey, from which the program derives its title. The Concert Band is UWL’s non-auditioned ensemble that welcomes all students who simply wish to continue playing their instruments during their college experience, offering opportunities to play a variety of music including classic band repertoire as well as new works.

Gaines is a driving force at UWL who everyday seeks to inspire the next generation of young musicians, and invites the community to bear witness to the musical and artistic growth of these ensembles as they come forward with their first performances of the academic year. Both concerts are free and open to the public. For more information, visit uwlax.edu/vpa.
