Wind Ensemble

The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Martin I. Gaines, invite the community to its first concert of the academic year titled “National Emblems." The Wind Ensemble plays in Annett Recital Hall of the Truman T. Lowe Center for the Arts.

The Wind Ensemble program is titled “National Emblems,” highlighting works written across the United States, Ireland, and Brazil. The Wind Ensemble is UWL’s auditioned ensemble with a focus on performing larger pieces and masterworks, such as Dwayne S. Milburn’s multi-movement American Hymnsong Suite, which features on the program. Other selections include Dakota Fanfare by Erik Morales, Irish Tune from County Derry by Percy Grainger, Carnival de São Paulo by James Barnes, and the famous American march National Emblem, the namesake for the program.

Gaines is a driving force at UWL who everyday seeks to inspire the next generation of young musicians, and invites the community to bear witness to the musical and artistic growth of these ensembles as they come forward with their first performances of the academic year. Both concerts are free and open to the public. For more information, visit uwlax.edu/vpa.
