The UWL Department of Music will present its annual Honors Recital at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026, in Annett Recital Hall, Lowe Center for the Arts. The event celebrates outstanding student achievement and features performances by the department’s most accomplished musicians.

The Honors Recital represents the highest level of student performance at UWL and showcases exceptional talent across instrumental, composition, and vocal disciplines. Students are nominated for the Honors Recital by their professors, and then, they go through an audition process where the entire music faculty votes on the performers. “This is one of the highlights of the year as we get to hear the students’ great work in some of the most polished performances, “says Jonathan Borja, chair of the department.

The 2026 program spans multiple musical eras and styles, including a new work by student composer Nathan Olson, as well as works by Debussy, Vaughan Williams, Khachaturian, Hüe, Fauré, Aruntunian, Schubert, Hahn, and many others.

This year’s Honors Recital features both music majors and minors: composer Nathan Olson (La Crosse); pianist Joseph Louis (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia); oboist Sasha Forbes (Mount Horeb); baritone Colin Miller (La Crosse); trumpeter Neil Clyne (Kenosha); bass Joshua Smith (Sparta); flutist Brookelyn Hohl (Holmen); and soprano Danica Lee (Kendall).

The program will also recognize the 2026 Outstanding Music Seniors Colin Miller, Gavin Dillie, and McKenna Sherrod for their academic excellence, artistic achievement, and contributions to the department.

The recital reflects the generosity of numerous donors who support music scholarships and student development at UWL. These funds help provide educational opportunities, performance experiences, and professional preparation for emerging musicians. Returning students who participate in the Honors Recital will be awarded scholarships in the 26-27 academic year.

The annual Honors Recital is a cornerstone event for the Department of Music, highlighting the department’s commitment to artistic excellence, student mentorship, and community engagement. Through rigorous instruction and performance opportunities, UWL prepares students for successful careers in music education, performance, and related fields.

The recital is free and open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend and support these outstanding student musicians. A reception in the lobby follows the performance.
