Chamber Music Concert

The University of Wisconsin–La Crosse Music Department will present its 2026 Chamber Music Concert on Saturday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Annett Recital Hall, Lowe Center for the Arts, featuring a dynamic evening of performance by the university’s premier scholarship chamber ensembles.

The concert highlights three select student groups whose membership is earned through competitive audition and recognized with scholarship support—ensembles that represent the highest level of collaborative music-making at UWL.

The UWL Hoefer Brass Quintet, coached by jazz program director Jon Ailabouni, will open the program. Known for its precision, blend, and commanding sound, the quintet features student musicians Evelyn Lutz and Lucas Matthews (trumpets), Jocelyn Sveet (horn), Devin Skrzypiec (trombone), and Joseph Sams (tuba). As the university’s flagship brass ensemble, the group exemplifies technical excellence and ensemble cohesion developed through intensive chamber study.

The concert will also feature the UWL Roth String Quartet, coached by Michelle Elliott. Comprised of Lilijana Hernandez-Dingel and Yassia Felts (violins), Nathan Olson (viola), and Keaton Purney (cello), the quartet demonstrates the nuance and communication central to the string quartet tradition. Their work reflects a deep commitment to collaborative artistry and interpretive depth, hallmarks of UWL’s string program.

Rounding out the evening is the UWL Cordeiro Wind Quintet, under the direction of Jonathan Borja. Featuring Brookelyn Hohl (flute), Sasha Forbes (oboe), Aly Cvikota (clarinet), Austin Rumpf (saxophone), and Andre Sivertson (horn), the ensemble highlights the color and versatility of woodwind chamber music. Their performances emphasize musical dialogue, stylistic range, and the technical demands unique to wind chamber repertoire.
