Teaching Our Students to be Critical Thinkers

A Conversation with Dr. Louis Newman on Fostering Intellectual Curiosity and Insight

Teaching our students to become critical thinkers has long been a central goal of higher education, but doing so has never been more challenging—or more important—than it is today.  As educators, we often assume incorrectly that our students will learn these skills simply by taking our courses and internalizing the modes of thinking we model for them.  In this presentation, we will explore what critical thinking is and introduce  some techniques for teaching it more effectively.

This event, hosted by the Joint Committee for Civil Discourse during Free Speech Week, is open to all UWL faculty and staff. Lunch is provided.
