CATL Fellow, Writing

The Provost’s Office is soliciting applications for the CATL Fellow, Writing position within the Center for Advancing Teaching and Learning (CATL). The mission of CATL is to support improvement of teaching and student learning at UWL. The Center provides opportunities for instructors to improve their practice through workshops, conferences, colloquia, informal discussions, grant projects, and individual consultation.   

To apply: Please provide a one-page letter indicating your interest and applicable experience along with a current, 2-page CV by noon on December 5, 2025 to CATL.  A small committee will interview candidates and make a decision as quickly as possible to assist in fall course scheduling.   

It is expected that candidates will discuss their interest in a position with their supervisor/department chair. Questions regarding the position can be directed to Kristin Koepke, Director of CATL.

POSITION DESCRIPTION  --- CATL Fellow, Writing 

Main duties and responsibilities of the CATL Fellow, Writing:   

  • Support department, college, and university requirements regarding writing   
  • Offer writing-focused workshops and consultations for instructors across the disciplines  
  • Provide information about writing-intensive courses and programs to various campus stakeholders and serve as a consultation to university committees completing work related to teaching topics specific to writing 
  • Update and develop resources related to teaching and learning with writing  
  • Stay up to date on literature related to writing as a high-impact educational practice and the role of technology in teaching and responding to student writing 
  • Collaborate with CATL staff on various CATL initiatives  

Required:   

  • Full-time Tenure-Track Faculty or Instructional Academic Staff at UWL  
  • Experience teaching writing-intensive courses  
  • Knowledge of best practices related to writing in the discipline(s)  
  • Past participation in CATL workshops and/or conferences  
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills   

Preferred:   

  • 5 years experience at UWL if IAS (preference for Lecturer or above); Tenured if tenure-track faculty (preference for Associate Professor or above)  
  • Experience working with instructors from a variety of disciplines and with varying levels of experience  
  • Expertise in writing pedagogy in your discipline and/or across disciplines  

The positions will start August 24, 2026. The position will be filled as a .25 position* which is a 3-contact hour/semester teaching reassignment or overload with a time commitment of approximately 6-9 hours/week over a 15- week semester. Summer commitments, if needed, would involve an additional stipend. This is a 3-year renewable appointment.
