Salsa Dancing in the Library

Rhythm of the Pages 1, 2, 3, 4!

Murphy Library will nurture a culture of mind and body learning by inviting students to dance together in a group setting to the Salsa Rueda style from Cuba.

Participants will experience enhanced physical coordination, cardiovascular fitness, and mental well-being through synchronized group dance movements, fostering a sense of community, rhythm awareness, and joyful expression.

Students will meet and be introduced to new terms, moves, and an international dance style as they work together to dance through a collective understanding of the complex Rueda choreography.

Working as a dance group, learners will integrate new concepts with fresh-footed flair under the guidance of instructor CeAnna Christen, in this special Sala Rueda version of Murphy Library's Community Engagement Collaboration series.

This outcome aligns with the Mind/Body theme by emphasizing:
  • Physical benefits: movement, fitness, coordination.
  • Mental benefits: rhythm, focus, emotional uplift.
  • Social connection: teamwork and group synchronization.

Salsa Rueda, also known as Rueda de Casino, is a social dance where pairs form a circle and dance together to a caller who directs a series of partner swaps and dance moves.

We recommend wearing tennis shoes or flexible footwear and advise against heels.

By the end of our session, we hope you will have the chance to smile, learn the basics of Salsa, and master a few Salsa Rueda group calls.
