World Language Day

Join us in celebrating International Mother Language Day

Join us for food and fun in celebration of International Mother Language Day on February 23rd! Faculty, staff, and students from the UWL Department of Global Cultures & Languages invite you to participate in fun activities throughout the day in the Bluffs Ballroom in the Student Union.

International Mother Language Day is celebrated annually on February 21 to promote linguistic diversity, multilingualism, and the protection of endangered languages.

Learn how cultures around the world prepare coffee and tea, play games, sing karaoke, and practice your salsa dancing. Attendees will be entered into raffle drawings for prizes, and snacks and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Schedule of Events

8:50-9:45am --- Coffee & Tea Flights

Start your day by learning how cultures around the world prepare coffee and tea in different ways

9:55-10:50am --- Global Trivia

Impress your friends and professors with your knowledge of cultural and linguistic geography

11:00-11:55am --- Game Hour

Play Apples to Apples, Bananagrams, Codenames, and other popular games in another language and compete for prizes

12:10-1:05pm --- Mini Language Lessons

Get your feet wet in a new language with fun lessons offered by students and instructors

1:10-2:05pm --- World Language Karaoke

Perform your favorite non-English songs from around the world

2:15-3:10pm --- Dancing

Join your friends and our salsa experts for an hour of music and dancing!
