CATL is continuing the artificial intelligence (AI) community of practice (COP) for AY 2026-27 to share and compile the various ways instructors are currently using or responding to the opportunities and challenges presented by AI technologies. This COP will determine how to expand on the AI Summit that took place May of 2024, 2025, and 2026 to continue the cross-campus conversations about AI. UWL instructors who are working with, and/or against, AI technologies in their classrooms are welcome to join these conversations. This community of practice provides an opportunity to share and reflect on the uses and abuses of AI in the classroom, and we will work towards a goal of disseminating our work to other instructors across the university.

- AI for feedback and assessment
- AI for course design
- How students use AI technologies
- How to talk with students about AI
- The uses and types of AI
- The potential abuses of AI
- AI and Eagle Advantage competencies
Target Population: This CoP is intended to connect instructors who are using, interested in using, or skeptical about using, AI technologies in their classes. There are many different examples of AI technologies, and many different ways of using these technologies in and around the classroom, and we are seeking a diverse array of approaches.

Participating in a CoP provides instructors…

Who can participate? Anyone who is using, interested in using, or skeptical about using, AI technologies in their classes. There are many different examples of AI technologies, and many different ways of using these technologies in and around the classroom, and we are seeking a diverse array of approaches.
What is the time commitment? To participate in the experience over the academic year would take about 15 to 20 hours of your time.
Meeting Dates: During Academic Year 2026/2027, we will meet one Monday per month from 8:50-9:45am in the CATL Conference Room, 161 Wing Technology Center. The dates for Academic Year 2026/2027 are September 14, October 19, November 16, December 7, February 15, March 8, April 19, and May 10. CATL will send you an Outlook calendar invitation after you complete your registration.
Meetings are intended to connect people who might not otherwise have the opportunity to interact and to provide a shared context to communicate and share information and explore new possibilities in a way that builds understanding and insight.
Readings, resources, thought questions, etc. will be shared before meetings. Additional investigation, exploration, and is encouraged on your own between meetings.
