UWL and the La Crosse community are set to host the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Wrestling Championships March 15 and 16.

The event, featuring 180 competitors from 60 schools across the United States, will be held at the La Crosse Center, 300 Harborview Plaza.

UWL’s wrestling team is entering the championships in strong form, having finished second in the NCAA Division III Upper Midwest Regional. Seven UWL wrestlers earned the right to compete in the national championships.

Kim Blum, director of UWL Athletics, says the two-day competition is a chance to showcase everything UWL and the broader community has to offer.

“UWL Athletics is proud to host a national event to highlight our institution and community, as well as provide a special experience for our coaches and student-athletes," Blum says. “Our staff has been working extremely hard to make sure that all of the 180 wrestlers who are competing have a memorable weekend at the national championships.”

This will be La Crosse’s fourth time hosting the NCAA III Wrestling Championships (2011, 2012 and 2017). La Crosse was also scheduled to host in 2021, but the tournament was canceled that year due to COVID-19.
