UWL panel series to feature YMCA April 20

UWL’s College of Business Administration will host the La Crosse Area Family YMCA for a conversation on diversity, equity and inclusion Wednesday, April 20.

The event is part of the CBA’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) panel series, which invites local organizations to share lessons about their adoption of DEI initiatives, as well as the challenges they faced in the process. Campus and community members are invited to attend.

Professor of Economics Nabamita Dutta, the CBA’s inaugural faculty fellow for DEI, says it’s critical that students be exposed to these conversations, as it will prepare them to address DEI issues in their future careers.

“Business are interested in this more than ever, and our students need to be prepared in a way I don’t think we fully grasped previously,” she says. “We want to serve as a thought leader and provide a platform where businesses can talk about their DEI processes, plans and struggles. It’s important for students to see that.”

CBA Dean TJ Brooks adds: “Universities should be the place where we have conversations about where society should go and what society should be doing. I hope this is part of that conversation about what organizations are doing on DEI issues.”

The discussion will run from 6 to 7 p.m. in 1309 Centennial Hall. It will be moderated by Brooks.
