The university’s Adopt-a-Highway crew holds its first trash pick up of the year Tuesday, May 24. Join the crew! Work gets underway around 6 p.m. at Korn Clements Road and Hwy. 33. The more than 2-mile route on Hwy. 33 travels through Middle Ridge to Korn Coulee Road, near the La Crosse-Monroe county line. The group will meet for a potluck reception following the clean-up. The crew is open to all university employees, retirees and their families. Wear appropriate clothing and gloves. Document Services will close Friday, May 27, after more than 35 years of service to UW-L. Congratulations to both Chuck Forer and Elizabeth Zuege on their retirements. A local service agreement has been awarded to DigiCOPY and plans are underway for a smooth transition of campus printing services. Questions regarding the transition can be referred to Debbie Veglahn, Administration and Finance, at 785.6494. DigiCOPY is a fast growing digital printer headquartered in Wisconsin. The company brings expertise through similar partnerships with educational facilities, medical facilities and private business. It has copy centers at Western Technical College, Gundersen Lutheran, UW Green Bay, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and other private institutions throughout Wisconsin. As the next weeks unfold, DigiCOPY plans to communicate with the campus community about processes and procedures and introduce DigiCOPY staff. “We will ensure a smooth transition as we begin operations and delivery routes are determined. Our goal is to continue to offer you the level of service Chuck and Elizabeth have provided over the years. We also intend to expand your capabilities through our full line of services,” said Patrick Thoney, Western sales manager. David Anderson, assistant professor of archaeology in the Sociology and Archaeology Department, will present the lecture "Howard Carter and the Search for Tutankhamen" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26 at the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul, Minn. The lecture is part of the Science Museum's Thursday Evening Lecture Series held in conjunction with the internationally acclaimed traveling exhibit Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs.
