Twenty-two Wisconsin colleges and universities were awarded TRIO SSS grants totaling $7,337,627, offering first-generation, low-income and disabled students access to programs to help them succeed in college.
SSS projects provide academic tutoring, guidance in course selection, assistance with financial aid programs and scholarships, financial and economic literacy counseling, help with admission to graduate and professional programs, and enrollment assistance for students transitioning from two-year institutions to four-year programs.

UW-L TRIO programs
UW-L has three federally-funded educational opportunity programs under the TRIO banner: Student Support Services (SSS) (www.uwlax.edu/sss/), Upward Bound (www.uwlax.edu/UpBound/), and the McNair Scholars program (www.uwlax.edu/mcnair/).
All three programs assist low-income and first-generation students in pursuing post-secondary goals. SSS also serves students with diagnosed learning and/or physical disabilities. The McNair Scholars program also accepts students from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds.
Student Support Services (270 Murphy Resource Center), on campus since 1978, provides advising, tutoring and workshops to eligible UW-L students. It serves 350 students annually.
Upward Bound (in 176 Murphy Library Addition) has been housed on campus since 1979. Each year, Upward Bound provides programming and academic support to prepare 85 students from eight area high schools for college success.
The newly-funded McNair Scholars program prepares students for graduate school, with the ultimate goal of increasing diversity among those with doctorate degrees.
