Faculty and staff lead efforts to collect school supplies for Coon Valley area; alums performing in Thursday concert
UWL faculty and staff are organizing efforts to collect school supplies for those hit by flooding in the Coon Valley area. Any extra supplies will be passed on to other schools in the area affected by the flooding.
Both new and gently used school supplies such as notebooks, rulers, color markers, colored pencils, crayons, pens, folders, Expo markers, calculators, Kleenex boxes and backpacks are being collected. Also, gently used backpacks and notebooks with many clean pages in them are also useful to teachers and students.
For those wishing to make a monetary donation, checks should be made payable to Westby Area Schools with CVES Flood Relief in the memo line.
A team is collecting items across campus through Friday, Sept. 14. Contact the person most convenient for you to find an easy to time drop items off in their office.

Deliveries will be made to Coon Valley Tuesday, Sept. 11 and Monday, Sept. 17, if additional items are collected.
Ten of the 15 teachers at Coon Valley Elementary School are UWL graduates.
Moon Tunes on steroids: Day-long music event is Thursday
Fight the Flood is the name for a day-long music event from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Southside Oktoberfest grounds. Admission is free; a free bike corral will be sponsored by Beer By Bike Brigade and Smith’s Bike Shop.
The event organized by Moon Tunes, Oktoberfest and others features food trucks and a variety of beverages. Bands playing all day include three-time Grammy Award winner and UWL alum Bill Miller, American Idol finalist and UWL alum Reed Grimm will be performing with Heatbox, and other groups performing include TUGG, Couleegan’s, and 13 other bands. A final lineup is expected by Tuesday.
Throughout the event, donations will be accepted for flood victims. Donations may be made out to the Rotary Works Foundation. All donations will be distributed to those families affected by the flooding in our area.
