UW-La Crosse’s four vocal jazz ensembles will welcome 10 Wisconsin high school vocal jazz ensembles and a top vocal performer to campus Saturday, Jan. 25.
The high school ensembles will perform with mini-concerts by the university's four vocal jazz ensembles during the day. Performances begin at 9 a.m. and run throughout the day in Annett Recital Hall in the Center for the Arts. Performances are free and open to the public.
This year's guest clinician is Kym Chambers Otto, known for her enthusiastic and positive critiques of on-stage presentation, communication and small ensemble vocal techniques. Her master class, a performance by the UW-L Collegiates and an awards ceremony will begin at approximately 3:45 p.m. UW-L's Director of Choral Music Studies Gary Walth will provide on-stage critique and commentary throughout the day.
Now residing in the Twin Cities, Otto has worked as a professional actor, singer and dancer with the Broadway Tours of “Cats,” “Cinderella” and “The Wizard of Oz.” She received a bachelor’s from St. Olaf College and a master’s in vocal performance musical theater from New York University. She was a member of the St. Olaf Choir, The World Youth Choir (Estonia and Norway Tours) and Vocalessence.
Otto is a founding member of the a cappella group of four women called “Chick Cheer.” When not spending her time teaching private voice, directing and choreographing, she represents companies such as Walgreens, Kubota Tractors, Target, General Mills, Best Buy, ikeepsafe.org and Mystic Lake Casino in commercials and print ads.
