Former University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestler Dan Laurent of Mishicot (H.S.) was named the College Athlete of the Year at the Greater La Crosse Area Sports Commission Awards Banquet Sunday night at the La Crosse Center.
He was one of three finalists for the award, joining UW-La Crosse swimmer Chelsea Hoff and Viterbo University (Wis.) basketball player Scott Buschman.
Laurent was selected one of eight winners of the 2011 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Today's Top VIII Award Jan. 4. The Today’s Top VIII Award recognizes student-athletes for their success on the fields and courts, in the classroom and in the community.
