About 1,900 incoming freshmen will be on the UW-L campus for Freshman Registration and Family Orientation in June.

About 1,900 incoming freshmen will be on the UW-L campus for Freshman Registration and Family Orientation in June. Students will meet with an adviser and select first semester courses. Meanwhile accompanying family members have a chance to learn more about UW-La Crosse through an orientation session.
“It’s a good opportunity for students to get to know some of the resources available to them, sit down with an adviser for the first time and become a little more familiar with the campus,” says Laura Scholz, admissions counselor and coordinator of freshman registration. “Some of these students may have toured campus, but probably have had no interaction with faculty members or advisers.”
Throughout the day students can participate in a series of 30-minute optional breakout sessions on campus resources such as Army ROTC, the Pride Center, Student Support Services and meal plan information. A “Choices Challenges and Opportunities” session in the morning gives students guidance on the myths and realities of the college social scene. The day also includes an optional visit to a residence hall and a campus tour.
“The program gives them an opportunity to make this feel like home because it will be for the next few years,” says Scholz.
Students have the option of attending a one-day registration program on one of the following days: June 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21 and 24. Anywhere from 260 to 280 new freshmen are expected each day, as well as hundreds of family members. Sessions and advising will be located in Cartwright Center, Graff Main Hall, Centennial Hall and Wimberly Hall.
Freshman enrollment at UW-L is anticipated to be about 1,900; however, final numbers are not calculated until the 10th day of classes.
