About 2,200 new and returning UW-La Crosse students will be moving into campus residence halls Friday, Aug. 30, and Saturday, Aug. 31.
Nick Nicklaus, UW-L director of residence life, says the day typically runs smoothly and students and parents are full of excitement and anticipation.
“This is a big, anticipated transition for students and families alike as a new life experience is unfolding!” he says.
The residence life staff and student-move-in crew members do an outstanding job, he adds.
How do I help?
Volunteers are always welcome, says Nicklaus. Anyone interested in helping with move in can contact the Office of Residence Life at 608.785.8075. Let staff know what day(s) you wish to volunteer (Friday and/or Saturday) and what shift(s) (morning shift from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and/or the afternoon shift from 12:30 p.m.–4 p.m.). You can also show up at the Office of Residence Life in Eagle Hall on either day and staff will put you to work!
Just how many students live on campus?
While 2,200 students move in on Friday and Saturday that doesn’t account for all of the students living on campus. The Office of Residence Life has housing for more than 3,500 students on campus this year. Prior to move-in days, nearly 1,300 students are already on campus (new international students, housing student staff and student leaders, fall season athletes, UW-L band members, students granted early arrival for personal reasons, students employed on campus who need to be back at school for work, students living in Reuter Hall, move in crews, and first year students engaged in activities prior to school such as First Flight, etc.)
