UWL students carry items to their residence halls during move in days in fall 2025.

Students move into residence halls Sept. 2-6

UW-La Crosse is preparing for a busy move-in period, with approximately 3,000 new and returning students moving into residence halls starting Wednesday, Sept. 2. The move-in process will span five days to accommodate family schedules and maximize parking capacity on campus.

Near the UWL campus, a few select city streets will be shut down and volunteers will be helping to direct traffic for pedestrian safety.

Expect increased traffic along some of La Crosse’s busiest streets, including:

  • Badger Street
  • Campbell Road
  • La Crosse Street
  • Oakland Street
  • Pine Street
  • Vine Street
  • West Avenue

The move-in process will be supported by approximately 150 volunteers, including UWL athletic teams, staff, faculty and student organizations.

“We are always excited to welcome new and returning students and their families to campus,” says Lisa Weston, associate director for Residence Life. “When students arrive, they bring so much energy with them, and it’s fun to see the campus come alive. We are grateful for the many volunteers who come out each year to welcome students, direct traffic, help move belongings and lend a hand wherever needed. Their time and enthusiasm help students feel welcome from the start."

The first day for fall semester classes at UWL is Tuesday, Sept. 8.
