Five to enter Wall of Fame, celebrations set

Five former student-athletes will be inducted into the UWL Wall of Fame Saturday, Oct. 27. They will be recognized during the football game, as well as at an induction ceremony at 7 p.m. in the Mitchell Hall Gym. Admission is free. UWL Athletics will also host “Homecoming For Heroes” from 5-9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Mitchell Hall Fieldhouse. The event features live music by Three Bucks and Change, which includes UWL head men’s track & field coach Josh Buchholtz. Food and beverages (provided by Pepsi Cola of La Crosse and Pearl Street Brewery) will be available for purchase. Admission is free, with donations being accepted. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Freedom Honor Flight to fund its efforts of flying veterans to Washington, D.C. The Wall of Fame tributes former athletes and coaches for exceptional athletic ability and enhancing school tradition. Wrestling, 2005-08 • Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) All-Time Team • Second in career wins, 153-24 • Four NCAA III All-America honors • Two-time NCAA III champion at 174 pounds (2007, 2008); third in 2006; sixth in 2005 • Three-time WIAC champion at 174 pounds (2006, 2007, 2008); 2007-08 WIAC Wrestler of the Meet, two-time WIAC Wrestler of the Year (2006-07, 2007-08); four-time WIAC Wrestler of the Week • Member of four conference championship teams, four teams placing in the top-four at NCAA III championships (2nd in 2006 and 2008; 3rd in 2007; 4th in 2005) • CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team in 2008; three-time National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team (2006, 2007, 2008) • Bachelor’s (2008) and master’s (2010) in physical education teaching.

Amanda Medendorp

Swimming & Diving, 2005-08 • WIAC All-Time Team • WIAC Diver of the Meet at 2006, 2007 and 2008 league meets, one of two in conference history to earn the honor • Swept one-meter and three-meter diving competitions each season; won six league titles; named WIAC Diver of the Week nine times • Earned seven NCAA III All-America accolades, including a career-best fourth-place finish in the one-meter in 2007; fifth (2006), eighth (2008) and 16th (2005) • Finished ninth (2006, 2007) and 10th (2005) in the three-meter at national championships • Member of two WIAC championship teams (2005, 2008), four teams placing in top-24 at NCAA III championships (13th, 2008; 15th, 2005; 17th, 2006; 24th, 2007) • Bachelor’s in physical education teaching, 2009.

Softball, 2000-03 • Four-time All-WIAC selection (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003) • Named 2003 WIAC Pitcher of the Year (one of three in school history to earn award); three-time WIAC Pitcher of the Week • Selected to 2002 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Third Team All-Region and 2003 NFCA Second Team All-Region • School records for career wins (49), innings (527.0), strikeouts (432) • Third in career appearances (87), sixth in saves (4) and earned run average (1.65) • Third in school history in single-season innings (157.2), wins (15) and strikeouts (147), all in 2001; fifth in single-season wins (14) and strikeouts (133), sixth in innings (142.1), all in 2003; tied for second in single-game strikeouts (13) • Only player in school history with two no-hitters (vs. UW-Superior April 3, 2000, and St. Olaf College April 1, 2001). • Bachelor’s in early childhood-middle childhood education, 2005.
