UWL students were all ears as they packed into the Strzelczyk Great Hall of the Cleary Alumni & Friends Center earlier this semester. They were ready to hear advice from someone who has been in their shoes and, since, has found tremendous success.
Bryan McKeag, ’82, shared his career path as part of the UWL College of Business Administration lecture series. Along the way, the accountancy major put together 10 keys to finding success in the professional world. They range from setting goals and networking and serving charities or other community efforts.
As the CFO at Heartland Financial USA Inc., McKeag also shared inside knowledge of what employers are looking for. That included a story of his son who was able to land a job despite an average GPA, because of experience he had at an on-campus internship and another managing employees at a Best Buy.
“He was able to give examples of ‘this is the work product I’ve done,’ and they liked that,” says McKeag.
