UW-L Orchestra selected to perform at state conference The UW-La Crosse Orchestra has been invited to perform at the state’s top conference for music professionals. The ensemble is one of only eight music groups from throughout the state selected to perform at the annual fall Wisconsin State Music Association Conference (WSMA) in Madison in October. Morgan to become interim provost

Betsy Morgan, chair of UW-L’s psychology department, will become the interim provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs July 1. She will remain in the interim position for two years while UW-L focuses on completing its HLC accreditation in 2015-16. During the 2016-2017 academic year, UW-L will conduct a national search for the next permanent provost/VCAA.
“Given her previous experience in this complex role and extensive familiarity with our coming HLC reaccreditation process, Dr. Morgan is uniquely qualified to serve in such an important administrative position,” Chancellor Joe Gow wrote in an email to campus.

Boys' Science Exploration Camp[/caption]
Summer is here and space is still available in youth summer programs offered through UW-L Continuing Education and Extension. In June, the middle school Girls in Science and Boys' Science Exploration Camp will provide middle school students with two days of hands-on science and math workshops and labs. The girls and boys work alongside university faculty. In addition, kids experience a college campus, an overnight stay in a residence hall, campus meals and social activities. UW System website and hotline for anonymously reporting waste
The UW System is launching a new UW System website and hotline for the anonymous reporting of waste, unethical activity and misconduct. As part of the West Chiller Plant Construction, the area south of Wentz Hall from Murphy Library to Parking Lot R-1 will be fenced off to install utility connections. The contractor will begin setting up fencing for the work Monday, May 18. A retirement celebration for Pam Glasshoff, International Education, will be held from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, May 22, in 1209 Centennial Hall. Glasshoff started in the Counseling and Testing Center in June 1974; she transferred to the Academic Skills Center from 1975-1978 when she left to raise her four children. She started working again in 1986 with the Department of Health and Social Services in La Crosse until 1991. In January 1992, she returned to UW-L in the Office of International Education. In her retirement, she plans on spending time with her six grandchildren, family and friends; traveling; working on projects around the house and yard and enjoying the outdoors walking, kayaking, biking, camping and swimming. Join Glasshoff in celebrating her retirement. Light refreshments will be provided. Her final day at UW-L is May 29,Kickoff meeting: Freshman Registration & Family Orientation June 5
The Admissions Office will hold a kickoff meeting for Freshman Registration & Family Orientation at 10 a.m. Friday, June 5, in 140 Cowley Hall. UW-L’s Clinical Laboratory Science program featured on UW System website
UW-L’s Clinical Laboratory Science program is being recognized statewide in the UW System initiative, Knowledge Powers Wisconsin.
The initiative addresses the economic difficulties regional businesses face by providing additional resources to more effectively meet their needs to create growth and jobs.
The feature details the popular UW-L program in which all its graduates find work immediately after graduation — often filling vital positions for state health care organizations.
The story — “UW-La Crosse lab professionals help meet national demand” is highlighted on the Knowledge Powers Wisconsin homepage at http://www.uwpowerswi.com/. Read the article.
The Knowledge Powers Wisconsin site has been developed by UW System, with help from all campuses, to show how Wisconsin’s public universities, colleges and extension networks are working to improve the state’s competitive edge by leveraging the state’s human capital, supporting business and industry, and strengthening local communities.
Science and Math Expo
About 170 students from seven area middle schools presented their research at the annual Middle School Science and Math Expo Tuesday, May 12, in the Mitchell Hall Fieldhouse. The expo is sponsored by UW-L Continuing Education & Extension, College of Science and Health and the Gundersen Medical Foundation.

Mark Valenti and Terry Wirkus, both ITS, presented at the international Unleash 2015 conference in Madison April 28. "A Game Changer: The My Mediasite Explosion at UW-La Crosse" shared how the MyMedia service at UW-L has increased in number of presentations by 400 percent and in number of users by 680 percent in one year. Unleash is an annual conference for the users of Mediasite worldwide. On April 23, a contingent from the University of the Free State, South Africa, came to the conference early to visit UW-L to learn more about the deployment of My Mediasite.

As the summer begins, the dining operation hours in Cartwright Center will change.
The schedule will be as follows:
- Saturdays and Sundays: Cartwright Center is closed (unless noted otherwise)
- Monday, May 18 - Friday, May 22: All dining areas closed. Catering will occur as scheduled.
- Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day): Cartwright Center is closed
- Tuesday, May 26 - Friday, May 29: Einstein's open 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- Monday, June 1 - Wednesday, June 3: Einstein's open 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- Thursday, June 4 and Friday, June 5 (state track meet): Galley open 7:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.; Einstein's open 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
- Saturday, June 6: Galley open 7:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
- Monday, June 8 - Thursday, June 11: Einstein's open 7:30 a.m. - 1:30 pm
- Friday, June 12: All dining areas closed to facilitate the transition to a new dining company.

Changes to library lending policies
Murphy Library will soon complete the implementation of a new library system. This will bring some changes to Murphy Library and UW System lending policies. For example, UW-L staff and graduate students will be able to borrow books for the full semester, and undergraduate students and community borrowers will have 28-day loan periods for books. DVD loans will be 14 days for staff and graduate students, seven days for undergraduates, and three days for community borrowers. The new system is expected to go live May 20. More details will be coming as the transition takes place.
